It's Budget Season

It’s budget season in Saskatoon, and City Hall is preparing for one of the largest property tax increases in recent history.

The preliminary 2026 budget calls for an 8.23% property tax hike, with another 5.95% increase in 2027.

The City says this is driven largely by rising costs for policing, fire services, transit, and maintaining roads and bridges.

They also say the increases are necessary to keep up with population growth, inflation, and growing demand for services.

City Council will begin deliberations on November 25th, with discussions expected to last three days.

This is the moment for residents to weigh in, ask questions, and push for accountability before decisions are finalized.

At Common Sense Saskatoon, we’re working to make sure Council hears from taxpayers and keeps spending in check.
