Campaign Roundup - Day 9:

  • The upcoming municipal elections will include Catholic School Trustee elections too. Three trustees have already been acclaimed: Gerald Beres for Light of Christ Catholic Schools in Unity, and Florian Possberg and Bonita Elliott for Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools in the Humboldt and Biggar areas, respectively. You can view many of the candidate profiles here.

  • Incumbent Bev Dubois has been acclaimed as the Ward 9 Councillor. With five terms on City Council, she has previously represented Ward 10 and began representing Ward 9 in 2016. Her priorities include advocating for lower taxes and improving core City services.

  • There is a second Councillor acclamation as well. Incumbent Zach Jeffries has been acclaimed as the Ward 10 Councillor. First elected in 2012, he says he is prioritizing improving community services and cost-effective program delivery.

  • Mayoral candidate Cynthia Block expressed disappointment over comments at a recent debate that she felt were demeaning. Block, a former City Councillor, said she remains focused on addressing homelessness and affordable housing issues.

  • CKOM sent out a Q&A to each mayoral candidate. Today, they published Don Atchison’s answers. Atchison says his top three issues to address in his first 100 days in office would be safety and security, homelessness, and getting the City budget to a 0% increase on the mill rate. He plans to pause large projects like the downtown arena due to funding concerns and focus on partnerships for additional facilities.
