Election 2024: Campaign Roundup - Day 8

Welcome to Day 8 of our Saskatoon 2024 Campaign Roundup!

With the 2024 municipal election underway, we'll be bringing you daily updates on all the policy proclamations, platform promises, and political point-scoring from the campaign trail.

As always, our work is entirely funded by donations from residents just like you, so if you appreciate the updates, please consider making a one-off donation or signing up as a supporter for just $10 a month - that's just 36 cents per email!

Campaign Roundup - Day 8:

  • Post-Secondary Advance Polls are available on the University of Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan Polytechnic campuses from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm until November 7th.

  • Cary Tarasoff, a former Canadian Armed Forces pilot, is running for Mayor, with a focus on transparency, prioritizing core City services, and scrutinizing City spending. Known for his critical public stances on City Hall decisions, he argues that recent City projects prioritize federal funding over community needs.

  • In Ward 8, Malvina Rapko is running to replace her sister, Sarina Gersher. Apparently, no family member has ever been elected to the same Council seat in Saskatoon, though there have been family connections on Council before. Rapko, who previously ran for the Public School Board, says that, while she’s received advice from her sister, she is ultimately running her own campaign.

  • Not only are residents voting for their Mayor and City Councillor, but School Board Trustees too. Profiles of the School Board candidates are available online, at the Elections Saskatoon website.

  • Election Day is Wednesday, November 13th. Voters must generally cast ballots at their designated polling station, which can be found here. However, on Election Day, Market Mall and City Hall are both Super Polls - which means that any voter can vote at these locations regardless of the ward they live in.
