Election 2024: Campaign Roundup - Day 6

Welcome to Day 6 of our Saskatoon 2024 Campaign Roundup!
With the 2024 municipal election underway, we'll be bringing you daily updates on all the policy proclamations, platform promises, and political point-scoring from the campaign trail.
As always, our work is entirely funded by donations from residents just like you, so if you appreciate the updates, please consider making a one-off donation or signing up as a supporter for just $10 a month - that's just 36 cents per email!
Campaign Roundup - Day 6:
- Are you following us on social media? Keep up with Common Sense Saskatoon on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn. More platforms to come!
- A resident wrote a letter to the local news, suggesting that Council and School Board candidates often struggle to reach voters, giving incumbents an advantage. To improve voter knowledge, the writer wants the City Clerk’s office to host an event where candidates can present, debate, and answer questions, and wants the City to extend online candidate bios to 1,000 words.
- CTV profiled Ward 2 candidates. There are six people vying for the seat: Franklin Arthurs opposes shelters in the ward and major downtown projects; Jean Beliveau wants to prioritize homelessness solutions; Janna Horn cares about community safety and fiscal restraint; Fraser Kent emphasizes safety and transparency; Karen Kobussen aims to revitalize vacant spaces; and Senos Timon advocates for affordable housing and transit improvements.
- One of mayoral candidate Cynthia Block’s volunteers spoke about why he chose to help out on her campaign. Meanwhile, volunteers for the Don Atchison and Cody Tarasoff campaigns went on the Civically Speaking podcast.
- Advance voting is still ongoing, and polling stations are open from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm today through November 4th. Find a polling station online here.
