Welcome to Day 13 of our Saskatoon 2024 Campaign Roundup!

With the 2024 municipal election underway, we'll be bringing you daily updates on all the policy proclamations, platform promises, and political point-scoring from the campaign trail.

As always, our work is entirely funded by donations from residents just like you, so if you appreciate the updates, please consider making a one-off donation or signing up as a supporter for just $10 a month - that's just 36 cents per email!

Campaign Roundup - Day 13:

  • Mayoral candidate Gordon Wyant shared his “8-Point Budget Renewal Plan” that he says will restore fiscal accountability at City Hall. His plans include a cap on departmental budget increases, protection of frontline services, no deficit spending, and quarterly fiscal reports.

  • Mayoral candidate Don Atchison shared a clip from his Global TV interview on his plan for homelessness. He claimed that other candidates are proposing more talk, while he is the only one with a plan.

  • Atchison called the new arena “Cynthia’s Downtown Palace” and suggested that the project is a want, and not a need. He said that the City cannot afford it.

  • Meanwhile, Cynthia Block, another mayoral candidate, shared “Real Talk with Block”, an interview where she sits down for a meal at the Saigon II Restaurant and discusses her life and her vision for the city.

  • CTV profiled the eight candidates running to represent Ward 8. Darren Abrey is focusing on fiscal responsibility and transit safety, while Henry Chan is emphasizing affordability and crime reduction. Scott Ford aims to enhance community safety and drive local economic growth, and Prathamesh Kale is prioritizing road maintenance, improved public transit, and community safety. Ron Mantyka is advocating for infrastructure improvements and sustainable growth. Malvina Rapko is focusing on accessibility and economic support. Peggy Schmeiser supports transparent finances and infrastructure, and Kevin Zarycki is emphasizing infrastructure maintenance and fiscal responsibility.
