Welcome to Day 11 of our Saskatoon 2024 Campaign Roundup!

With the 2024 municipal election underway, we'll be bringing you daily updates on all the policy proclamations, platform promises, and political point-scoring from the campaign trail.

As always, our work is entirely funded by donations from residents just like you, so if you appreciate the updates, please consider making a one-off donation or signing up as a supporter for just $10 a month - that's just 36 cents per email!

Campaign Roundup - Day 11:

  • There will be a drive-thru polling station open tomorrow, Saturday, November 9th from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, at City Hall's parking lot off 4th Avenue. To get there, follow the roadway access from 24th Street to 4th Avenue N behind City Hall where you will be directed by Elections Saskatoon staff. Any eligible voter can cast their ballot in the drive-thru.

  • Ahead of the municipal election, there are calls for an improved transit system, including better bus availability, modernized infrastructure, and enhanced safety measures for operators and riders. Advocates like the Bus Riders of Saskatoon say there is a need for a Bus Rapid Transit system, while the Amalgamated Transit Union is emphasizing the importance of prioritizing safety.

  • CTV profiled mayoral candidate Don Atchison. The former mayor is running again, prioritizing safety, homelessness solutions, and fiscal responsibility, including a proposed 0% tax increase. He is critical of what he calls a current lack of vision for the city, advocating for affordable housing options like tiny homes over costly projects like a downtown entertainment district.

  • Mayoral candidate Gordon Wyant laid out his plan on social media. He identified two main problems - rising crime and people feeling unsafe on the streets, and overspending at City Hall leading to tax increases.

  • The Saskatoon Chamber has asked candidates to take an election pledge, committing to R-O-I, which stands for Refocus Saskatoon’s Role, Operate With Excellence, and Invest In Tomorrow. You can read more at the Chamber’s website and see who has taken the pledge.
